National Identification Number (NIN) Matching: 9mobile Launches Intelligent Portal for Instant Verification
Lagos, Nigeria, December 19, 2020: Innovative and customer-friendly telecommunication company 9mobile today announced the launch of its intelligent portal for instant verification to help its customers link their SIM cards with their National Identification Number (NIN).
The Online Self-Service NIN update portal www.9mobile.com.ng/nin
, which has already gone live on the 9mobile website, enables subscribers to verify and update their NINs instantly.
This unique platform provides 9mobile subscribers an opportunity to submit and verify their NIN without physically visiting any of the Experience Centers across the nation.
This step is one of the several proactive initiatives taken by 9mobile to make the NIN linking exercise directed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) seamless and stress-free for its subscribers.
Apart from the innovative, intelligent portal, 9mobile has also made available a USSD option *200*8# that allows subscribers to check the matching status of their NIN to their SIM and subsequently submit it for backend verification and mapping.
Commenting on the exercise, the Chief Information Officer, 9mobile, Ibikunle Jimo, said that as a customer-centric telecoms company, 9mobile always looks out for the convenience of its subscribers by leveraging innovation.
"Immediately, we received the NCC directive to link all SIMs with the respective subscribers' NIN; we challenged our IT and network teams to develop a seamless and stress-free solution for our customers. Here is the result. This solution is the differentiator for us since our customers do not need to wait endlessly for the NIN link up with their SIM cards.
This is what it means to use innovation to solve societal challenges for our customers. This solution is the power of the innovation etched in our DNA.
We urge our customers to enjoy what we are known for by riding on the back of our innovative solution to verify their NIN without any stress whatsoever,” he said.
Jimo, who stressed that 9mobile would always ensure that all its subscribers have access to options that best suit them, added that in addition to the intelligent portal and USSD string options, 9mobile experience centers have also been equipped to render NIN matching support for walk-in customers.

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Akan Okon, has explained that the project would be developed in phases.
He told The Guardian that the construction of the first phase would gulp $2.016b, adding that the phase would generate about 300,000 jobs, while 3,500 companies are expected to operate at the seaport by the end of 2023.
He made this known while speaking with newsmen in Uyo yesterday, adding that the state government would provide 40 per cent of the funding, while 60 per cent would come from the preferred bidder.
[/b]Okon said: “60 per cent of the funding will come from core investors, Bollore ChinaPower Consortium which is the preferred bidder. They are already managing 23 ports in Africa while we believe that their experience and contacts will attract businesses and more investors to the seaport.”
The seaport, with its ancillary industrial city meant for large industries and covering Mbo and Ibeno local councils of the state, would commence operations before the end of 2023.
According to him, the possibility of an early projected operational date was because the state government and the preferred bidder had already undertaken some technical aspects of the port development before the approval last week.
Okon, who is also a former Commissioner of Finance, stressed that in spite of the existence of other seaports in the Niger Delta region, the natural depth of Ibom Deep Seaport would offer more benefits to businesses, as it would serve as a clearing point for bigger vessels.
“The advantage of the Ibom Deep Seaport is in its natural location. For instance, the Lagos Port in terms of draft after dredging is just about 12m so large vessels can’t berth there. They have to wait in the high sea and need smaller vessels to bring cargo to the ports, but big vessels can come into the Ibom Deep Seaport even without dredging.
“It has a draft of 18m and a turning basin of 600m designed for vessels that can carry 120,000 Dead Weight Tonnage and will have 10 terminals. So it can actually allow for another vessel to come in without waiting for the first vessel to be discharged.
“It is also designed to be a trans shipping port, which means goods meant for neighbouring African countries can be transshipped from here using smaller vessels,” he said.
Okon added that the presence of the industrial city would also boost business and attract more cargoes to the seaport and would add to its capacity and reduce the number of clearing days.
“It will also be an additional source of revenue to the Federal Government and the Akwa Ibom State government because its impact will not only be felt in the host communities, but also in nearby communities, he added.
He allayed fears over the possibility of abandoning the project, noting that, due diligence was done before the approval of the project to ensure its success, while the state government undertook several engagements with the host communities

The interim Chairman, Alliance on Surviving COVID -19 and Beyond , Mr Femi Falana ( SAN ), says over 70 corpses of persons killed in Lagos during the # EndSARS protests have yet to be claimed .
Falana said this during an interview with The PUNCH on Sunday.
The Chief Coroner of Lagos State , Mojisola Dada , had in a public announcement on November 19 , 2020, called on relatives of people who lost their lives between October 19 and 27 to visit the Lagos State Teaching Hospital to identify and claim bodies of their loved ones.
However, Falana said so far, only about 20 families had come forward to claim bodies.
The ASCAB chairman added that many people did not know that their relatives had been killed, while some others might have left the “ matter to God.”
He said, “About 98 dead bodies were dumped in various mortuaries out of which three were dumped there on October 20 . However, less than 20 relatives have shown up at the mortuaries to identify their loved ones and take them for burial .
“ Investigations by ASCARB show that people are quietly mourning their dead and some are afraid. Others haven’ t confirmed that they lost anybody. So far, less than 20 relatives have come to identify their loved ones. This is over a month after the announcement.
“Some didn’ t know their loved ones were there . Some have accepted their fate as an act of God. ”
Falana explained that this was not the first time that people would fail to show up to claim corpses of relatives.
He said this was similar to the case of the killing of members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria in Zaria , Kaduna State in 2015 by the Nigerian Army , when only 15 relatives out of the 347 buried in mass graves came forward .
The ASCARB chairman said similarly , most of the relatives of the 938 persons killed in the riots that ensued after the announcement of the 2011 presidential election result also did not show up .
“ The Ahmed Lemu presidential panel determined that 943 persons were killed in 11 states in the post -election violence, but very few relatives showed up . So, these sorts of things are not new ,” said Falana

The new cheques with new standards effective 1 January 2021
Nigerian banks are migrating in the New Year, into brand new cheque standards, on the order of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
From 1 January 2021, the old cheques will expire, said the First Bank in a notification to customers.
It means the bank will no longer accept them for payments.
The new cheques come with unique features.
They have expiry dates and also have cheque digit included on the MICR code line.
The CBN has been working in moving to the new standard since 2018.
According to a 9 December circular sent to all deposit money banks, accredited cheque printers and Nigeria Interbank Settlement System [NIBSS], only new cheques will be allowed in the clearing system from I January.
The circular was signed Sam C. Okojere, director Banking Services Department.
The circular, however, gave some banks, who are unable to meet the 31 December three months of grace, to comply.
This will be done, if reasons for non-compliance were found to be satisfactory by the CBN management.
But the CBN said it will embark on a full enforcement of the new cheque standard by 1 April, 2021.

IPOB dares South-East governors over ‘Eastern Security Network’
Following the recent comment made by the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, on behalf of his South-East counterparts, distancing themselves from the recently launched security outfit of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and claiming that the outfit is non-existent, the group has maintained that nobody can stop it from functioning.
In a statement by the media and publicity secretary of the group, Emma Powerful, it described the comment as a ‘shameful display of their irredeemable enslavement and loyalty to their caliphate slavemasters who in the first place appointed them Governors.’
While expressing his disappointment at the comment, Powerful said that the governors should have commended the establishment of the security outfit rather than condemning it.
According to the IPOB spokesman: ‘They only further exposed their emptiness and detachment from the people. At a time when well-meaning individuals and groups from entire Southern Nigeria and Middle Belt are hailing the setting up of ESN, the so-called Governors are busy advertising their opposition to the people they claim to be leading. Anyway, they never had the mandate of the people. So, we are not surprised.’
Powerful added: ‘But our message to the treacherous South-East Governors and their South-South counterparts is that ‘the train has since left the station’ and can’t reverse its course. It’s pretty too late to have a rethink. The people have got what they long desired which the cowardly Governors failed to give them because of selfish political interest.
‘May we remind the traitors that the Eastern region cannot be sacrificed at the altar of their political interest. It’s either they key in or shape out! The East can exist without them. They should steer clear because they can’t withstand the force behind ESN.
‘We reiterate that ESN is not a Biafran Army but a mere vigilante group established to protect Biafrans against terrorists. The outfit is only a child of necessity born to bridge the gap of leadership failure by both States and the federal government to protect lives and property of Biafrans who are daily dehumanised, raped and killed by Fulani herdsmen and terrorists unchallenged by any security agency.
‘The traitor Governors should know that ESN is even beyond IPOB. It’s the people’s irreversible resolve to defend themselves against conquest and occupation by aliens who enjoy the protection of the Fulani controlled the federal government and security agents. Anyone trying to oppose the security outfit is testing the will of the people, and does so at his own peril!
‘By the action of the Governors, it’s now obvious that the incessant killings of Biafrans in different forests in our land, the destruction of our crops and farmlands, the raping of our mothers and sisters as well as other atrocities of Fulani herdsmen and terrorists in Biafra land enjoy the support of the Governors. Maybe as the condition for their continued stay in office. But that era is gone for good.
Powerful who blamed the southeast governors for not establishing their own local vigilante outfit after the west and the northerners launched theirs added ” we unequivocally tell Umahi and his co-governors that ESN has come to stay. Since they lack, the courage to protect our people ESN has come to fill the gap.
‘They should rather bury their faces in shame instead of ranting. Governors of South West and their lawmakers established and funded Amotekun to protect Yoruba land; Miyetti Allah announced the formation of Fulani security network to protect Fulani interests nationwide, yet our Governors were busy pursuing the agenda of their caliphate slavemasters instead of understanding the signs.
‘Once again, Governors, political elite, security agencies and all saboteurs should keep their distance from ESN for any attempt to resist, undermine or attack the outfit amounts to the invitation of the people’s wrath.
‘Anyone opposing ESN is invariably telling us he is the sponsor of the terrorists ravaging our land.
“Those scheming to stop ESN should first stop terrorism in the country and then ESN will voluntarily unwind. Anything to the contrary will spell doom to all,’ Powerful warned.

Love is a beautiful thing, I still remember the first time I fell in love, I was 28 years old. I have been dating but have not really experienced Love ..
It was a Tuesday and I saw that babe walking by with her friend. My eyes were locked onto her and my senses flown away.
I was admiring God's beauty in a human. Like a man under a spell I immediately left what I was doing and started pursuing this babe like a lion after a prey..
I don't know where the courage came from but I walked up to them and started vibing with both friends without letting them know who I was into.
She got near her house and told me to go back, so I collected the numbers of both of them. Deleted the friends own immediately and saved my crush. Her name was Bukola.
Then my mumu started .. First I bought mtn card 400 to load so I can call her .. at first she gave me tough time , I'll call in the morning she won't pick , call on the afternoon same thing. Then in the night she would pick and then tell me "sorry I did not see your calls "..
Infact when I knew I was in love was the day she flashed me by mistake, I was hungry as hell that day, and me and my friend was already drawing map on how we are going to spend the last 200naira with me.. i'mmediately I saw that call. Hunger flew away . And because I don't have credit to call her back I quickly used the last 200 to buy card so I can talk to her ...
Only for her to pick and tell me "Pls I'm very sorry you're not who I wanted to call "..
I was disappointed but still want to talk to her then she told me "I'm busy right now , maybe later "...
Omo I received insult from my friend tire that day.. infact that momth was hell .. my friend was so angry with me that he called me woman wrapper..
But still yet I love her the same .
One day I texted her that it's mu birthday and that even if she won't call she should at least text me happy birthday..
After about 2 hours she called me for the first time , wished me happy birthday and ask if I'm celebrating it . I told her m not celebrating but I would be happy if she would follow me to a fancy restaurant..
And it started from there. From tastee fried chicken I took her to ShopRite and we did small shopping..
After that day she started picking my calls and I never stopped showing her how much I love her .. I make sure I always send her Good morning and good night text .. I also make sure every time I buy airtime I buy her own too..
But with everything she told me she's not interested in a relationship..
One day I stopped.. no more calls no more text .. o forced myself to stop talking to her .
After about a week I woke up to a text from her that says "I miss seeing your text messages and missed calls "...
I was happy so I called her back and like a miracle she came to my house that day and we kissed .. the whole skyrocketed from there .. after a while she allowed me into her paradise and I realized she's tear rubber .. long story short we are married now with 2 beautiful kids ...
Marriage with her was heavenly.. I remember I was working at GTBank when we got married, while she works with a private firm...there was no kids involved yet
We were so close that you would mistake us for siblings,,we do have our fight sometimes but anytime it happens. She knows my mumu button And I know hers too.
We eat and bath together... There was this time I traveled for a week.. Before I came back she fell sick cos she's not used to staying without me .
Life is so easy with her .My car is her car .most times I go to work with Uber while she drives ..
When I'm broke we eat what we have no pressure...
Pls dear youth Love still exists

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oyo state chapter on Sunday called on law enforcement agencies in the country to arrest Lere Olayinka, the South-West Zonal Director of Media and Publicity of the party for alleged impersonation.
Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, the Oyo State PDP Publicity Secretary said Olayinka is “merely a former spokesperson to former Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state and is not an elected official of the South-West zone of the party”.
While calling on the public to disregard Olayinka, Olatunji said the PDP in Oyo clearly understands the antics of Olayinka and his boss, which was to cause crisis in the PDP and then move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Lere Olayinka used to be the spokesperson for the former governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose. He is not an official of PDP as far as we are concerned. Who made him South-West zonal director of media and publicity? He just arrogated the position to himself”.
“He is an impersonator and what he has done is criminal in nature. It is criminal of him to be parading himself as the South-West zonal director of media and publicity because there is no such position in the hierarchy of the PDP in South-West. The public should just disregard him and the law enforcement agencies should take note of this act of impersonation”.
“Lere Olayinka and his paymaster have been warned to desist from fanning the embers of discord in PDP because we believe that they have ulterior motive for doing that. They have a second option if they are expelled from PDP unlike Governor Seyi Makinde who has no other home aside the PDP” he said.

We all know how common building collapse is in Nigeria, and this occurs because of our bad habit of building multi-storey buildings with concrete. In other parts of the world they are using steel, which is a far superior building material because it is lighter (doesn't put as much strain on the foundation) cheaper than Dangote cement, and requires less maintenance.
While steel needs to be imported, healthy demand would create a market incentive for domestic production. We need to start using creativity to solve our problem in Africa.

Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya has applauded farmers for their contributions, hard work and vigour in ensuring that the food supply chain was not broken, especially during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Ms. Olusanya gave the commendation at the December edition of the Eko City Farmers’ Fair and Farmers’ Appreciation Day held at the Ndubusi Kanu Park, Alausa, Ikeja, stating that the agricultural sector has received a lot of attention from the State Government to improve the supply chain,
Noting that year 2020 has been peculiar, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Commissioner said, “We know what happened during the lockdown when people thought they were not going to get access to food but yet our farmers came through for us. Many thanks to you our dear farmers, you stood by us by ensuring that the food supply chain was not broken at any time. It was stretched yes, but with your efforts and God’s grace it was not broken”.
Olusanya pointed out that the Farmers’ Appreciation and Award Day event was designed to show appreciation for the contribution of the practitioners to achieving the goals of the T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda saying, “Let there be no doubt in your minds concerning how appreciative this administration is when it comes to your contributions to ‘Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy’. What we are doing today is the least we can do to appreciate you”.
The Commissioner maintained that the Eko City Farmers Fair was designed to be a melting point for farmers to sell directly to consumers and for Lagosians to buy farm-fresh products directly from stakeholders at farmgate prices while shopping in a relaxed atmosphere.
We want people to be able to come here with their kids to be able to shop and for the kids to be happy as well. That is the essence of having a positive atmosphere. Another thing is for us also to appreciate our farmers today, we realised that this year has been a very, very tough year, especially for farmers, considering all they have been through,” Olusanya said.
She noted that “There is no better way than to start to put our farmers on a platform where they are also recognised locally. It’s been done in other climes and we need to start that from Lagos at least for this year”.
In recognition of outstanding farmers for the year 2020, Dr. Yakub Bashorun emerged as Best Farmer; Mr. Samuel Omitunde emerged the Most Promising Farmer, and Mrs. Sola Ogunleye emerged as the Best Woman in Agriculture.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Sunday, quoted the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as expressing sadness over the death of the Director General, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Prof Habu Galadima.
In a statement titled “President Buhari mourns passing of NIPSS DG, describes him as an intellectual colossus,” Shehu said Buhari described the deceased as an intellectual colossus who stood tall in the field of scholarship and knowledge.
“Galadima was an eloquent and remarkable intellectual whose contributions to scholarship were vast and remarkable, and Nigeria will continue to remember him for these contributions,” the president reportedly said while commiserating with his family, friends as well the government and people of Nasarawa State.
According to the statement, Buhari added that “with the death Galadima, NIPPS and Nigeria at large have lost one of the best DGs ever appointed to head the institute.”
Also, Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, on Sunday, said he was shocked over the death of Galadima.
Lalong, in a statement, said, “Since assuming office over one year ago, Prof. Galadima has injected a fresh impetus in the management of the nation’s apex policy and strategic institution by introducing new concepts that made research seamless even under the current COVID-19 pandemic. He also did a lot to improve the physical infrastructure of the institution while strengthening the academic experience for all course participants. He will be greatly missed.”

You know what they say about a customer being king, sounds cliche, but in this social media generation- you’ll be amazed at how one critic's single tweet can cause a business huge loss.
I like to give service providers a very long rope because I know how hard it is doing business in Nigeria, but sometimes they will just make you very angry sha.
I used to be a huge fan of Dominos Pizza, but everytime I make an order via their app, they misplace my order. I would call to make the order manually, it’ll still take them another 24hrs to rectify it (i.e) they fulfill the order the next day. They’ll claim they were trying to confirm the credit. I got angry and never went back.
What started as a boycott, graduated into healthy-eating. I passed by Dominos today and realized it has been months I went there or ate their pizza.

Crystal Palace welcome champions and new league leaders Liverpool to Selhurst Park on Saturday for both sides' final outings before Christmas.
The Eagles have only won one of their last five league games but face a Liverpool team struggling on the road despite their lofty league position.
It has taken far longer than last season, but Liverpool are back out on their own at the top of the Premier League table courtesy of Wednesday night's 2-1 victory over previous leaders Tottenham Hotspur.
The top-of-the-table tussle, which Liverpool dominated in the first half before surviving some glorious Spurs chances in the second, looked destined to end level until Roberto Firmino's pinpoint stoppage-time header finally opened up some daylight between the two front-runners for the title.
If anything could dampen Jurgen Klopp's delight at the victory, it would be another Wednesday night to Saturday lunchtime turnaround - a piece of scheduling which led to a furious reaction the last time it happened less than a month ago.
Liverpool drew 1-1 with Brighton & Hove Albion on that occasion - one of five successive away league matches which the champions have failed to win in a run which stretches back almost three months now.
The Reds have not gone six away league games without winning since January 2011 and could draw five in a row for the first time since December 1991, having been held by Everton, Manchester City, Brighton and Fulham since their 7-2 humiliation at the hands of Aston Villa.

Leaked chat shows singer Queency Benna threatening Dr Alaska Obi after she wasn't paid the agreed amount following a tryst
Queency Benna's claim that she was raped by a man named Obi appears to be a case of a woman who wasn't paid after a tryst as shown by leaked chats.
Late last night, singer Queency Benna released a video, saying she was suicidal because she was raped by a doctor named Obi.
She released part of their chats to back her claims and said she was waiting for a doctor's report. She also tagged the Nigerian police.
The full chat has now emerged and it appears to show that they agreed to meet for sex but problem began when he paid her afterwards with fake transfer.
In the chat, she called him a "doctor that is inhuman enough to sleep with a woman in her own hotel room and left her stranded after an argument."
She reached out to him, asking for her money. When that wasn't forthcoming, she threatened to go on social media to call him out and she later followed through on her threats.

A senior presidential spokesman Garba Shehu has apologised for his misleading information that only 10 students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina were abducted on December 11, Igbere TV reports.
No fewer than 344 schoolboys were rescued from bandits who took them to Zamfara. The students arrived Katsina on Friday.
Mr Shehu said his information at the time about 10 boys were from sources that should “ideally know”. He added that it was not his intention to downplay the seriousness of the incident.
“I apologize for the incorrect communication citing that only 10 students were kidnapped at the science school, Kankara,” he wrote in a post across social media platforms.
“This communication of numbers was provided by persons that should ideally know. These numbers were seen to conflict with what was available at that time.
“Please understand that this communication was in no way done to downplay the seriousness of the situation.
“Please accept my sincere apologies on this matter as we continue to move our great Nation Nigeria forward. Thank you.”
President Muhammadu Buhari, who is presently in Katsina on a week-long private visit, met the schoolboys on Friday.

No fewer than 30 armed policemen on Friday morning invaded popular singer and EndSARS activist, Seun Kuti's residence, arresting a member of his family for yet-to-be-ascertained reasons.
SaharaReporters learnt that the policemen stormed the residence in a desperate attempt to pick up the musician, but they met his absence, as he was on a routine morning radio show.
According to a group, Movement of the People, who explained how the police harassment transpired, the arrest and harassment of Seun Kuti's family member were uncalled for.
The MOP Media Centre said, "Seun Kuti is one of the strategy figures of the #EndSARS Movement who remains vocal despite mounting attacks and intimidation from the oppressive Nigerian government. He is one of the leaders of the developing socialist-oriented political organisation of the toiling masses and youth, Movement of the People.
"This attempt to arrest Seun Kuti is not surprising, as it falls in the growing pattern of attacks and repression on all voices of mass and youth opposition to the hellish and oppressive situation in the country.
"The Nigerian ruling elites are now desperate to silence all voices speaking the truth to the masses and calling on the masses to get organised politically and boot the oppressors and their rotten system out of power."
The MOP added that the police were nowhere to be found in defending the people against kidnappers, robbers, bandits, and the Boko Haram terrorists but they are willing tools of the oppressive ruling elite.
"They look the other way when the rich oppressors close down our streets because of their parties and social engagements. The vested agenda of police these days is to attack and kill peaceful protesters, striking workers or stop meetings where the state of the nation is to be discussed.
"What is definite is that this crude attempt to silence Seun Kuti has failed already and would only help accelerate the building of the mass revolutionary political organisation of the toiling masses and youth," it added.

Pastor Bamiloye recently revealed that he can only pray for these men to be disappointed continuously by women who are not God’s will for their lives.

Nollywood is a sobriquet that originally referred to the Nigerian film industry. The origin of the term dates back to the early 2000s, traced to an article in The New York Times. Due to the history of evolving meanings and contexts, there is no clear or agreed-upon definition for the term, which has made it a subject to several controversies.
The origin of the term “Nollywood” remains unclear; Jonathan Haynes traced the earliest usage of the word to a 2002 article by Matt Steinglass in the New York Times, where it was used to describe Nigerian cinema.
Charles Igwe noted that Norimitsu Onishi also used the name in a September 2002 article he wrote for the New York Times. The term continues to be used in the media to refer to the Nigerian film industry, with its definition later assumed to be a portmanteau of the words “Nigeria” and “Hollywood”, the American major film hub.
Film-making in Nigeria is divided largely along regional, and marginally ethnic and religious lines. Thus, there are distinct film industries – each seeking to portray the concern of the particular section and ethnicity it represents. However, there is the English-language film industry which is a melting pot for filmmaking and filmmakers from most of the regional industries.
